message
from the chair
On behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, welcome to the 39th annual Arts Awards in the picturesque town of Bay Bulls. To be nominated for a provincial Arts Award is a significant achievement in the professional career of our province’s artists. Tonight is a celebration—a chance to come together and honour the amazing artists whose endeavours contribute to our vibrant artistic community.
Culture is the lifeblood of Newfoundland and Labrador, and ArtsNL is dedicated to supporting emerging and established artists at every stage of their creative journey. During my time on Council, I've had the privilege of experiencing much of the extraordinary talent in our province, and I am in awe of the level and depth of creativity that flourishes here.
This year, we received over sixty nominations across six award categories. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the nominees and recipients tonight on this well-deserved milestone and thank them for their ongoing contributions to our brilliant cultural landscape.
I invite you to sit back and enjoy this marvellous evening of entertaining performances as we celebrate our artists.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (now known as ArtsNL) is a non-profit Crown agency created in 1980 by the Arts Council Act. Its mission is to foster and promote the creation and enjoyment of the arts for the benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of 13 appointed by government, reflecting regional representation of the province. This includes 10 professional artists who provide sectoral representation of the arts community; two community representatives (with an interest in the arts); and one representative of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation (non-voting). ArtsNL receives an annual allocation of $5 million from the Province to support a variety of granting programs, program delivery, office administration, and communications. It also seeks support from the public and private sectors. It supports the following artistic disciplines: dance, film, multidiscipline, music, theatre, visual art, and writing.
In addition to its annual Arts Awards, ArtsNL manages other award programs, including the BMO Winterset Award, the Rhonda Payne Theatre Award, and the Ross Leslie Award.

ArtsNL acknowledges the ongoing support of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. Their annual investment of 5.3M allows ArtsNL's programs to strengthen and grow the arts sector.
